An indepth Q&A with Jo Moore about her 11 years at OFF & ON.
Name: Jo Moore
Role: Branch Manager Britomart OFF & ON
Tenure: 11 years
1. Can you briefly introduce yourself and your role at OFF & ON? How long have you been with the company?
I’m Jo, I have been with OFF & ON over 11 years starting at Newmarket OFF & ON. I’m currently the manager at Britomart OFF & ON. I started in Newmarket as a waxer and then became a laser technician. Almost three years ago I became the Newmarket OFF & ON store manager and then moved over to Britomart OFF & ON.
2. What initially attracted you to work for OFF & ON, and what has kept you here for over 11 years?
I did my training with Brenda (our current Waxing Specialist at OFF & ON) initially. She was the trainer for one of the top beauty schools and introduced me to OFF & ON. We visited OFF & ON and it was love at first sight. My first impression of the store was that it was tidy and clean and had a great atmosphere. I wasn’t in a position to work for OFF & ON initially as I had young children and needed to work closer to home. Once I was able to be more flexible, I saw an opening at OFF & ON and applied straight away. There wasn’t anywhere else I wanted to work for. The rest is history. I received very thorough practical training where I might not have somewhere else. I felt well supported and looked after.
Ten or so years along, I’ve stayed for the people. The support in the background has always been great.
3. How has OFF & ON evolved and grown since you joined the company?
OFF & ON are always thinking about and trying to find what’s next for OFF & ON. We started with brows and waxing, and now we have an array of services. Our evolving menu of services has been added with intention and it’s not just about adding extra services. With new services we make sure it fits with what our clients are looking for and we make sure that whatever we do, we do it well.
4. What do you think sets OFF & ON apart from other companies in the industry, and how has that contributed to its success?
The friendliness, our culture and our presentation. We don’t enjoy cluttered areas and want to make sure clients feel relaxed in our environments. We also do our best to make sure each store has great team fit so that we work well together and in return able to give clients also the best experience. Our team members genuinely enjoy working with and being with our clients.
5. As a long time employee, what advice would you give to new hires or those considering a long-term career at OFF & ON?
It’s not an easy job and like any role, there may be difficult moments BUT when you have your team supporting you and clients who make it all rewarding, it’s well worth it. I’d tell new team members that you need passion for what you do and not to take things too personally.
6. What do you personally find most rewarding about working at OFF & ON?
My team make it all worthwhile. When I first started in my managing role, everybody was new. It’s been great seeing everybody coming together and experiencing the unity.
7. Any last comments?
There have been ups and downs in the eleven years but I’ve been grateful to be here. I’m working with a great bunch of people and I’m excited for what’s to come!
